Recently, some interesting videos and articles have surfaced that discuss a lack of engagement from boys in the classroom. Statistics show that boys are scoring significantly lower than girls on literacy tests. Additionally, boys are far more likely than girls to be held back a year or drop out of school altogether.
One theory from researcher, professor, and author Ali Carr-Chellman states that the problem is not boys, but that schools and education no longer welcome competitiveness and the physical nature of boys.
Carr-Chellman suggests that in order to reach boys, schools have to engage them by incorporating what they like. This includes integrating video games into teaching and learning.
