Here’s a Great Way to Get Your Students Involved in the 2012 Election

We’ve been sharing election resources, lesson ideas, and current events coverage all summer with the OLE Election Series, but now that school is back in session we want to hear what students think about the election, candidates, and campaign topics.

We are excited to announce a brand new feature on the OLE Election Series called Classroom Voices. You may be too young to vote in the upcoming election, but you’re never too young to have your voice heard on the issues that matter to you.

Students Get Involved

There are lots of ways to get involved in the months leading up to the election. Try casting your vote in one of our Student Election Polls from My Voice National Mock Election, or debating your position in our Debate the Issues discussion forum. Are you a news reporter at heart? Join the Citizen Journalists team and submit your news story for a chance to be featured on the OLE Election Series blog. Are you more of a news anchor personality? Submit your news broadcast covering the election on our OLE Citizen Journalists SchoolTube Channel.

So what are you waiting for? Get involved, cast your vote, take your position, and report the news. However you decide to participate, make sure that your voice is heard this fall with OLE Election Series Classroom Voices.

Every week, we will feature a new poll from My Voice National Student Mock Election for you to cast your vote on national topics, social issues, education, and your community. One of the greatest things about living in a democracy is our constitutional right to stand up and defend what we believe in. Just like the politicians in Washington, D.C., this is your chance to discuss, debate, question, and educate your peers on your positions on important election issues and have your voice heard.

 Citizen Journalists

Are you tired of not having your voice represented in the news? Become a part of the OLE Election Series Citizen Journalists team by submitting your coverage of current events, news, and opinions related to the upcoming election. We’re looking for student bloggers and video correspondents to keep us up to date on election issues that matter the most to you.

At the end of the election, our panel of judges will be awarding prizes to the top three Citizen Journalists blog posts and the top three videos based on creativity, original reporting, good writing, and overall journalistic excellence. Finalists will be selected from the blog posts and videos with the most likes from the community, so be sure to share your election news coverage with your friends and families and campaign for their votes.Videos and blogs must be submitted by November 2 to be eligible to win.
