Remembering September 11

As the tenth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks draws near, Pearson wants to help educators and students acknowledge this momentous event.

Most of us can recall where we were that Tuesday morning, but the students in our classrooms today cannot. Although their lives have been shaped by the event, they may not be familiar with the horrors that unfolded that day or the heroic efforts that have taken place since to keep our nation secure. For this reason, Pearson is supporting educators around the country by providing free elementary and secondary educational materials uniquely centered on September 11.

We believe all K-12 teachers and students will benefit from access to these online materials:

Elementary: Quick and grade-appropriate whiteboard-ready presentations with lesson plans explain September 11 with a focus on the heroic efforts that have taken place since then to keep our nation secure.

Secondary: A comprehensive student module, Remembering September 11, as well as whiteboard-ready presentations with lesson plans that support teaching about the impact of September 11 on American life, foreign policy, the economy, and government and citizenship.

Educators can download these materials for free at www.PearsonRemembers911.com (site goes live August 19).

We at Pearson share your goal of helping students understand not only the events of September 11, but also the determination that has inspired our actions as a nation since that day. We hope these materials will help you and your students continue the important work of both learning about and living out the core American values of democracy, freedom, justice, and equality.
